Social Events
Canadian Academy of Learning recognizes the importance of
social activities. We encourage students to use their language
skills outside the classroom. Birthday celebrations, special
lunches, international theme nights and parties are held
so students can share in each others’ cultures. Students
can also practice their English through fun exercises and
taking part in community events.
English
Movies
This dynamic program gives students the chance to improve
their listening skills and increase their knowledge of practiCLA
English using movies. Every month, a new movie will be shown
and the focus will be on gaining vocabulary, idioms, and
common expressions. There will also be a class discussion
that will center on the theme of the movie.
One
on One Tutoring
Students who need extra help will receive individual attention.
There is up to 10 hours of private instruction available
every month for each student.
TOEFL / LPI / IELTS
This comprehensive program allows students to practice
and develop all skill areas necessary to achieve a successful
TOEFL / LPI / IELTS score. This course is designed for listening
practice, grammar, vocabulary enrichment, reading comprehension,
and essay writing. Computers are available for students
to practice computer-based TOEFL tests.
Business
English (TOEIC)
This course gives students an opportunity to improve language
skills needed in business situations. A wide range of interactive
activities including dialogues and role playing is used
to improve confidence when speaking and encourage communication
among students. This course will expand business vocabulary
and techniCLA grammar. TOEIC is for high intermediate to
advanced students. TOEIC (Test of English for International
Communication) will be offered toward the end of the 8-month
program.
Home
Stay
CLA places students in safe, comfortable homes in well established
neighborhoods. The accommodations will be located in close
proximity to CLA as well as other amenities.
All host families are carefully screened and paired according
to a student’s needs. The Homestay program provides students
with the opportunity to live in Canadian homes and feel
supported in their pursuit of learning Canadian culture.
Canadian Hosts Provide:

• Shared washroom, laundry facilities, telephone, television,
etc…
